Material - Stainless Steel 1.4541 / 321: This grade of stainless steel, also known as UNS S32100, is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel. The addition of titanium is made to reduce the risk of chromium carbide precipitation, which occurs at high temperatures. This makes the steel particularly suitable for applications where the material is exposed to elevated temperatures in the range of 427°C to 816°C (800°F to 1500°F).
Equal Tees: In piping, a tee is a type of fitting that allows one pipe to be joined to another at a 90-degree angle, creating a T-shape. "Equal tees" specifically refer to tees where all three ends are of the same diameter. They are commonly used to combine or split the flow of the fluid in the piping system.
Applications: Due to the high-temperature resistance and excellent corrosion resistance of 1.4541 / 321 stainless steel, these equal tees are often used in environments where the temperature may degrade less resistant materials. Typical applications include aircraft exhaust manifolds, expansion joints, thermal oxidizers, refinery equipment, high-temperature chemical process equipment, and heat exchangers.
Mechanical Properties: Stainless steel 1.4541 / 321 has good mechanical properties, maintaining strength and toughness at high temperatures. It also exhibits good welding and forming characteristics.
Corrosion Resistance: This grade of stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance compared to 304 stainless steel, especially in oxidizing environments. It resists intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range.
Fabrication: Stainless steel 1.4541 / 321 can be readily formed and drawn, similar to standard 304 stainless steel. However, due to its high strength and resistance to high temperatures, it may require more powerful machines to perform these processes.
