Duplex steel is characterized by high resistance to intergranular, stress and pitting corrosion. It has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and an operating temperature of up to 200-250 ℃. This steel grade shows much better strength properties and higher resistance to abrasive wear and erosion as opposed to ordinary austenitic acid-resistant steels. It is used in the chemical, petrochemical, shipbuilding, aerospace, paper, mining, energy and cryogenic industries. It is used for parts and components: pumps, coolers, bolts, sleeves, shafts, valves, aviation structures, tanks and containers for the transport of chemicals (chemical tankers), desalination installations (pipelines), agitators, arms of rotating platforms, off-shore installations, pressure vessels, impellers and fans, press rolls, parts for machines used in the paper industry, installations in the processing and petrochemical industries containing chlorides. It is weldable. The lack of titanium contributes to better machinability. This steel grade is used in the chemical and processing industries.
