It has the highest machinability of all stainless steels, which is achieved by adding sulfur to form manganese sulfide inclusions. This steel is often used in the manufacture of steam turbine blades, pins, valves of hydraulic presses, apparatus of cracking equipment, parts of water pumps, nuts, stainless pipelines, screens for screening coal and other components of equipment working in contact with water and steam. It shows very good resistance to adipic acid, arsenic acid, benzoic acid, orthoboric acid, maleic acid, gallic acid, malic acid, or at low temperatures or concentrations to nitric acid, chromic acid, tannic acid and carbolic acid, ammonium hydroxide, barium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide. It is not resistant to salts and sulfur compounds.
