Advantages of using stainless steel

Stainless steel products are very popular in Poland and Europe. No wonder that in 2019 alone, the consumption of this material in Poland exceeded 500 000 tons. All thanks to the universality of this unique material. Why is stainless steel so popular?

Stainless steel was invented a little over 100 years ago by German engineers, but it only started to gain popularity in the British Isles, when it was used for the production of cutlery. Today, this material is widely used in industry, and world engineers find newer and newer applications for it every year.

Properties of stainless steel

Unlike many other materials, stainless steel does not require frequent and costly maintenance. It is resistant to aggressive environments, thanks to which it is widely used, among others, in in the maritime industry. Its longevity and durability mean that elements made of this material, such as: seamless stainless steel elbows, seamless stainless steel  tees, seamless stainless steel reducing tees, seamless stainless steel concentric reducers, stainless plate flanges, stainless weld-neck flanges and stainless blind flanges do not need to be replaced often. In addition, stainless steel can be recycled, because it does not lose its unique properties when melted down. This is of key importance for the idea of closed waste management promoted in Europe.

Stainless steel, thanks to its passive chromium oxide coating, does not react with other substances. Thanks to this, it can be freely used in contact with food. Strict HACCP standards require the use of stainless steel in contact with food. All because steel is non-toxic and easy to keep clean. Stainless steel elements can be cleaned with most common detergents and we do not have to worry that the steel surfaces will lose their properties or change their appearance

Stainless steel - application

Stainless steel articles are used in almost every area of our economy. In recent years, we can observe a trend popularizing this material on the construction market. Handrails, barriers, and elements of small architecture, such as bicycle stands, are made of stainless steel. This material is used particularly often in the design of public utility buildings or in shopping malls. Especially now - in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic - architects appreciated this unique material for its trouble-free disinfection and ease of cleaning. When it comes to the construction sector, it is also impossible to forget that stainless steel is perfect for the installation of water and gas installations. Most pipelines and elements, such as: stainless concentric reducers, stainless elbows and stainless tees, are manufactured from 304 and acid-resistant 316 austenitic grades. In addition, stainless steel is widely used in the food and catering industry. It is used for installations in food processing factories, cisterns for the transport of brines, milk or spirit, and is also used in the production of equipment for industrial kitchens. In our home kitchens you will find steel pots, cutlery and bowls. Stainless steel is also used in the production of housings for household appliances.

Stainless steel is also widely used in many other areas of the economy. It is used in the pharmaceutical, chemical, automotive and even energy industries. It should come as no surprise that due to the constantly growing demand for stainless steel elements, like seamless tubes, stainless concentric reducer or stainless elbows, we have seen significant increases in the price of this raw material in recent months. Fortunately, prices have stabilized in recent weeks, although they have remained high.
