What is heat-resistant sheet?
Heat-resistant sheet is made from steel that resists oxidation at high temperature. Chromium, silicon and, in some grades, aluminum form a dense oxide layer on the surface that slows scale growth in hot air and flue gas. These steels are covered by EN 10095. Heat resistance is not the same as creep resistance, i.e. the ability to carry loads at elevated temperature – we explain the difference in Heat-resistant vs. creep-resistant steel, and give an overview of grades in Heat-resistant steel: grades and industrial applications.
Grades in stock and designations in product names
This subcategory covers two groups of materials. The austenitic chromium-nickel steels are 1.4828 (X15CrNiSi20-12), 1.4841 (AISI 314), 1.4845 (AISI 310S) and 1.4835 (sold under the trade name 253MA). The nickel-free ferritic chromium steels are 1.4724 (X10CrAlSi13) and 15X25T, listed in product names together with 1.4749 or 1.4746. Several designations in one name indicate material produced to one standard and matched to equivalents in other systems. When 15X25T can be treated as a substitute for 1.4749 is covered on our page 15X25T steel as an equivalent of grade 1.4749. The grade of each lot is confirmed by an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.

Composition per EN 10095 (% by mass). *Approximate maximum service temperature in dry air based on the informative data in the standard; it is lower in sulfur-bearing flue gas or with frequent temperature changes. Thicknesses, cutting and product standards
We stock heat-resistant sheet from 1 to 30 mm thick in standard sheet sizes and cut it to size on request. The main product standard is EN 10095. Before ordering, check that the grade on the certificate matches the requirement in your drawings or specification.
Applications and grade selection
1.4828 sheet works well for burner shields, furnace casings, flue gas ducts and boiler components. 1.4841 and 1.4845, with about 25% chromium and 20% nickel, are chosen for heat-treatment baskets and grates, muffles and parts closest to the flame. Ferritic 1.4724 sheet and 15X25T contain no nickel, so they handle sulfur-bearing atmospheres well, but they have lower strength at high temperature and can become brittle after long service in the heat.
Heat-resistant sheet or standard 304 stainless?
1.4301 can withstand short-term heating, but in prolonged service above about 800 °C it scales quickly and loses thickness. If the part runs cooler and corrosion resistance and price matter most, 304 / 1.4301 stainless sheet is sufficient.
