310S round bar – steel for flame exposure
1.4845 (AISI 310S), X8CrNi25-21, is an austenitic heat-resistant steel with about 25% chromium and 20% nickel. At high temperatures chromium forms a dense, adherent oxide layer, so the bar does not scale in air and flue gases up to approx. 1,050 °C (1,920 °F). High nickel makes the steel ductile, non-magnetic and tolerant of heating and cooling cycles. Lower carbon (the “S” version) improves weldability. Diameters Ø 16–90 mm and cutting
We stock bar in diameters of 16, 20, 25, 30, 40, 45, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 mm, in lengths from 10 cm to 3 m or cut to length. The theoretical weight shown on each product page makes price calculation easier. Diameter tolerances are described on the round bar tolerances page. Heat-resistant bar is produced to EN 10095, and in the US version to ASTM A276 / A479.
Applications
310S bar is made into hangers, hooks and grates for heat-treating furnaces, baskets and fixtures for hardening shops, pins and bolts in hot zones, burner, nozzle and boiler grate parts, thermocouple holders and furnace components in the ceramics, glass and cement industries. Long service at approx. 600–900 °C (1,110–1,650 °F) can embrittle the steel through sigma phase formation, and in sulfur-bearing atmospheres nickel-free ferritic grades perform better.
