1.4571 – molybdenum and titanium in one grade
1.4571 (AISI 316Ti), X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2, combines the properties of two steels. Like 316L, it contains 2–2.5% molybdenum, so it resists pitting in chlorides and many organic acids. Like 321, it is titanium-stabilized: titanium ties up carbon and protects welds against intergranular corrosion, even after long service at elevated temperatures. In German-speaking countries 1.4571 is the standard “V4A” grade for chemical process equipment, so 316Ti flanges are often ordered for systems designed to DIN and EN standards.
Chemical composition of 1.4571 / 316Ti
| Grade | C | Cr | Ni | Mo | Ti |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.4571 / 316Ti | ≤ 0.08 | 16.5–18.5 | 10.5–13.5 | 2.0–2.5 | 5×C – 0.70 |
| 1.4404 / 316L (for comparison) | ≤ 0.030 | 16.5–18.5 | 10.0–13.0 | 2.0–2.5 | – |
Values in wt. % per EN 10088. Equivalents: 1.4571 = X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2 = AISI 316Ti = UNS S31635; forgings per ASTM A182 – F316Ti.
Sizes in stock
The category includes 22 sizes: weld neck flanges and slip-on plate flanges, each from DN15 to DN150 (pipe 21.3–168.3 mm OD), rated PN16 and PN40 per EN 1092-1. A butt-welded weld neck flange handles pressure, vibration and temperature changes better; a plate flange is sufficient in lower-pressure systems. DN and PN must match the mating flange, since they determine the bolt-hole pattern.
316Ti or 316L?
At ambient temperature, the two grades offer practically the same corrosion resistance. 316Ti is chosen when a system runs for long periods at higher temperatures, when heavy sections are welded without subsequent annealing, or when the design documents call for it. For electropolished pharmaceutical systems, 316L is better, because titanium carbides make a very smooth surface harder to achieve.
Matching pipe and fittings
In the same grade, choose 316Ti / 1.4571 pipe & tube and 316Ti / 1.4571 elbows. 316L / 1.4404 flanges come in a wider range of types and sizes. Other flanges are in the Flanges category.
